I think I am like a lot of people and then I think, perhaps I am not. I love change. I love changing up our home fairly regularly. My brother in law was over at our home for dinner a while ago; and we had just finished painting our whole interior of our house. He commented something like, " Oh right, every couple of years and things always have to change at the Gilkers!" I thought, hmm, is that a good thing or not? I decided I think CHANGE is always a good thing! He was right, in that I DO change things up.... but he was wrong, in that, its every couple of months, NOT years!!
CHANGE IS GOOD- Why?
Change is good - because it often gives us the lift we need, just like a change in seasons does for me. I love when winter is over and I can see little green buds showing up on my apple tree out back. I love when spring means I can clean all our windows and get that fresh clear view of blue sky and sun through the glass. Its renewal, its a new fresh start; not only physically around us, but in our minds as well.
Change is good - because it helps us to organize our spaces and clear up and clean out rooms that need help. Just Like Marie Kondo in her book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, most of us (all of us?) need to continually organize our lives. I love that she comments in her Netflix show and in her book, that if something does not bring you JOY then thank the item, and say goodbye. She is much gentler and kinder to "things" than I am. But either way, let it go and make room. Make room for new changes in your home OR make room just for new space to breathe.
Change is good - because it allows us to reevaluate our style, our budget and perhaps our time, and see what changes we can make that will create for us the home space we truly want. This is the chance to say I am done with all the grey and white white white in my space and I'm craving some colour in my life. How do I do that? Or I want a more minimal space, how do I de clutter? (Well, that is a whole other BLOG, coming to a screen near you- soon!)
Change is good - because you get to control how much or how little gets changed, or rearranged or cleared out of your space. Its really empowering, actually, to take several boxes of old decor items or clothing items to the goodwill store and say "thankyou, goodbye!" if nothing else, you get to give yourself a high five and say wow that feels so good!
I am not sure I am typical of all other people, and I may change my toss cushions seasonally, as well as my bedding, and artwork.... but I think we can agree, Change is GOOD.
